Biography

Ford , Jazz Tenor saxophonist, was born in Boston March 4th, 1954. He studied at the New England Conservatory. In 1974 he recorded with Gunther Schuller and then played in the Duke Ellington Orchestra under Mercer Ellington from 1974 to 1976. After this he played with Charles Mingus (1976-1977) Dannie Richmond (1978-1981), Lionnel Hampton, and then in the Mingus Dinasty (1982).         In 1985 he played with Abdulah Ibrahim. He had taught at Brandeis University and Istanbul Bilgi University.

In 1991 he received the medail of “Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres”  High French distinction.

He founded in 2009 the Toucy Jazz Festival: www.toucyjazzfestival.com, where he received the keys of the City.

He founded in 2008 his Art Gallery in Toucy, Galerie14. www.galerie14.org

He founded in 2000 “ZE BIGBAND” www.zebigband.com

Ricky Ford ordered a special commission to Benny Golson.
